Laba Festival is the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month (December) of the lunar calendar. It originated in the late Yuan and early Ming Dynasties. According to legend, Zhu Yuanzhang, who had not yet become an emperor, was in distress and suffered in prison. At that time, it was a cold day, and Zhu Yuanzhang was cold and hungry. In desperation, he found some red beans, rice, red dates and many other grains from the mouse hole in the prison.
